Brain and Tree

2025-05

Project Overview

This project was executed as the capstone work for my Scientific High School diploma, designed to thoroughly test and demonstrate the capabilities of my custom CNC machine. The objective was to transform a solid block of Lebanon Cedar into a complex deep-relief sculpture depicting the anatomical fusion of a human brain and a tree structure.

The manufacturing process required advanced CAM strategies in Fusion 360, orchestrating a sequence of aggressive roughing operations followed by high-resolution finishing passes and detailed engraving. The workflow tested the machine's rigidity and precision over a prolonged run time. Post-machining, the piece was hand-finished with beeswax to preserve the grain definition and provide a lasting sheen.

The final artwork was donated to the "Erasmo da Rotterdam" highschool in Nichelino, where it remains as a permanent installation.
